Aloe Moisture Cream and the Tradition of Cold Creams of the Garden

Aloe Moisture Cream and the Tradition of Cold Creams of the Garden

Nearly thirty years ago, I created Aloe Moisture Cream in my little herbal kitchen. I wasn't trying to recreate an old recipe or follow the latest skincare trend. I simply wanted to make a cream using the herbs I had come to know and trust: comfrey, calendula, chamomile, and aloe vera.

Only years later did I realize that the way I naturally made this cream closely resembled the traditional methods herbalists had used for generations.

Long before modern skincare, herbalists cared for the skin by slowly infusing herbs into nourishing oils, blending them with beeswax, and softening them with plant waters to create rich, protective creams. I like to think of these as Cold Creams of the Garden; simple botanical preparations inspired by the wisdom of the plants.

That same philosophy still guides every batch of Aloe Moisture Cream.

Each herb is slowly infused into sweet almond and jojoba oils for many weeks before being blended with beeswax, cocoa butter, rosehip seed oil, lecithin, and fresh aloe vera. It's a process that can't be hurried, and I believe that's part of what makes herbal skincare so special.

Living here in the Rocky Mountains has also shaped the way I formulate. Dry air, bright sunshine, and constant wind ask a little more of our skin. Aloe Moisture Cream was created to offer comforting botanical care for dry, weather-worn skin and has remained one of my most-loved creations for nearly three decades.

Looking back, I realize I wasn't simply making a moisturizer. I was following a tradition of working slowly with plants, trusting simple ingredients, and allowing nature to guide the process.

Every jar is still handcrafted in small batches with that same philosophy.

To me, Cold Creams of the Garden are more than skincare.

They're a quiet tradition of caring for the skin with patience, simplicity, and a deep respect for the wisdom of plants.
